Fairfield by Marriott Visakhapatnam: Your Dream Beach Getaway Awaits!

Fairfield Visakhapatnam: Beach Bliss or Budget Breakdown?! My HONEST Review! (Prepare for a Ramble!)

Okay, listen up folks, because I've just returned from a whirlwind trip to Visakhapatnam, and I'm ready to spill the (slightly sandy) tea on the Fairfield by Marriott. The tagline, "Your Dream Beach Getaway Awaits!"… well, let's just say dreams and reality don't always perfectly align, right? This is going to be my attempt to break down the whole experience, a bit of a messy, but honest, take. Buckle up.

First Impressions (and My Struggles with the Elevator)

Getting there was a breeze. The airport transfer (which, FYI, is a major win – more on that later) was smooth, and the hotel's… well, it is accessible. Accessibility: That’s a big tick for me, especially considering the sometimes-haphazard accessibility I've encountered elsewhere. The elevators… let's just say my patience was tested on a few occasions. Sometimes it felt like they were off on a secret vacation of their own! But hey, at least they were there. And, yes, there are facilities for disabled guests, which is seriously appreciated; I saw a few folks navigating without issue.

Rooms: A Comfortable Sanctuary (Mostly)

The rooms themselves… Ah! Available in all rooms: Air conditioning is glorious – essential for the Vizag heat. They're clean, modern, and, honestly, I really appreciated the blackout curtains. Sleep is a premium commodity, after all! Though, my room had the standard stuff like Air Conditionning, Alarm clock, Bathrobes, Bathroom phone, Bathtub, Blackout curtains, Carpeting, Closet, Coffee/tea maker, Complimentary tea, Daily housekeeping, Desk, Extra long bed, Free bottled water, Hair dryer, High floor, In-room safe box, Internet access – wireless, Ironing facilities, Laptop workspace, Linens, Mini bar, Mirror, Non-smoking, Private bathroom, Reading light, Refrigerator, Satellite/cable channels, Seating area, Separate shower/bathtub, Shower, Slippers, Smoke detector, Socket near the bed, Soundproofing, Telephone, Toiletries, Towels, Wake-up service, Wi-Fi [free], Window that opens, everything you need. They even had the internet access – LAN, which I could never quite figure out how to use when I really needed it. The in-room safe box gave me some level of peace of mind. They even have the option for an interconnecting room(s) available if you’re traveling with some family.

The Daily housekeeping was on point. The Extra long bed was a godsend. I did appreciate the Free bottled water, because let's face it, hydration is key! So, yeah, I can't complain, as I could have a nice long shower or a comfortable place to sit.

The View (And My Deep Thoughts on Sunsets)

Okay, so I didn’t quite get the room with the ocean view. Now, I know, "Dream Beach Getaway" implies immediate ocean views. But, hey, let's call it a partial dream, okay? Which is the honest truth. I did go up to the… Pool with view, and that was amazing. The sunsets in Vizag are… well, they're magical. Seriously, the way the light dances on the water… it's soul-soothing.

Internet – A Love-Hate Story

Now, let's talk Internet. Free Wi-Fi in all rooms! – Yes. Internet – Yes. Internet access – wireless – Yes. But, ah, the speed. it was… occasionally a challenge. I’m not going to lie, there were a few times I wanted to hurl my laptop out the window (not really, but you get the idea). The Internet [LAN] didn’t seem to work, and they didn’t seem to know how to help. Let’s be real, we all practically live online, and sometimes the Wi-Fi just felt… sluggish. But, for basic browsing and checking emails, the Wi-Fi in public areas was decent. I did use the convenience store to get more snacks, and the Wi-Fi was fine there.

Food Glorious Food (Mostly, Except for the Salad)

The food situation was, overall, pretty good. Restaurants? Yes, plural! They offer a Buffet in restaurant which is perfect for an early start. The Breakfast [buffet] was decent; I'm a sucker for an omelet station and I love the Asian breakfast, and I'll always opt for a Western breakfast if possible. There was a Coffee shop to get a little pick-me-up after a long day. The A la carte in restaurant was fine as well, and the Poolside bar was a nice touch, perfect for watching the sun go down (wine in hand, of course). They also had a vegetarian restaurant, which is amazing, and is a must-have for many people.

Now, a word of warning: the salad. Oh, the salad. I don’t know if it was a bad day, or a bad batch, but the salad was… well, it was a flavor journey I wasn’t prepared for. Let's just say I stuck to the soup from then on. The international cuisine in restaurant had some good options. And the Asian cuisine in restaurant really excelled. I think I will need to revisit to try more options.

Also, the Bottle of water was always available.

The Spa: My Moment of Absolute Bliss (and Maybe a Nap)

This is definitely where the "dream" part of the getaway truly kicked in. The Spa was a tranquil oasis. I splurged on a Massage – absolutely worth it. I’m not particularly a spa person, but I felt… zen. They also have the Body scrub and the Body wrap treatments available for those who like that. The Sauna, the Spa/sauna, and the Steamroom were an amazing experience. I will have to go back just for the relaxation. Not to mention the Foot bath, and the Swimming pool was just wonderful.

Things to Do (And My Obsession with Finding the Perfect Beach Spot)

Things to do? Well, obviously the beach is a major draw. Finding the perfect beach spot, though? That's a quest! And I’m sure that is what it is for you as well. They have the Swimming pool [outdoor] for those who enjoy the stay-in experience.

Cleanliness and Safety: A Mixed Bag

I'm a bit of a germaphobe, so this is important. The Cleanliness and safety seemed to be a priority. The Anti-viral cleaning products and Daily disinfection in common areas were reassuring. They had Hand sanitizer stations everywhere. The staff wore masks and were trained in safety protocol. The Rooms sanitized between stays was also reassuring. They even have Rooms sanitization opt-out available. The Safe dining setup and Sanitized kitchen and tableware items felt good. The CCTV in common areas and CCTV outside property gave me a sense of security. I am sure for the Staff trained in safety protocol that they are prepared for potential emergency. They even have Smoke alarms and Fire extinguisher. Also, they have a First aid kit and a Doctor/nurse on call.

Services and Conveniences: Everything You Need (and Some You Don't)

The Services and conveniences were pretty good, with a few things missing, and a handful of extras. The Air conditioning in public area was necessary. The Cash withdrawal was convenient. The Concierge were friendly, and the Daily housekeeping service was consistent. The Elevator was usually working. The Food delivery options were great, and the Ironing service was a lifesaver (my clothes are perpetually wrinkled). There's Laundry service too. There's Safety deposit boxes if you want to keep your cash/valuables safe. There's a Terrace where you can relax. The hotel had Doorman, 24-hour Front desk, and Security [24-hour]. There are Meeting/banquet facilities. They have Car park [free of charge].

They have the Business facilities if you're traveling for work. They even have facilities for Contactless check-in/out.

For the Kids (Not That I Have Any… Yet!)

The Family/child friendly atmosphere seemed good. Though I did not use the Babysitting service, the Kids facilities, and Kids meal, it was great to know they had them available.

Getting Around: Taxi Troubles and Airport Bliss

Getting around: Okay, the Airport transfer (mentioned before) was a lifesaver! Worth every penny. It's smooth, reliable, and takes the stress out of arrival. The

Okay, buckle up Buttercup, because this ain't your grandma's itinerary. This is my trip to the Fairfield by Marriott Visakhapatnam, and it's gonna be a chaotic, delicious, and possibly slightly disastrous adventure.

Day 1: Arrival and the Great Hotel Room Quest

  • Morning (6:00 AM - 9:00 AM): Ugh. Travel days. I'm still buzzing from the flight, and the hotel is an oasis. A goddamn oasis. I’m praying the flight from… well, let's just say far away wasn't a total disaster. First things first: find the hotel. Then, the real quest begins: the hotel room. I swear, sometimes I think they purposefully hide the good ones. Hopefully, it's not a dungeon. I'm not about that life.

  • Mid-morning (9:00 AM - 12:00 PM): FINALLY. Found the Fairfield. It's… well, it's a hotel. Pretty standard looking. They actually have a pool, which is a HUGE win. Check-in. Pray to the Wi-Fi gods for speedy internet. I've got work emails to ignore. Okay, deep breaths. Time to unpack, or rather, to attempt to unpack. I always seem to pack like I'm moving to the moon.

  • Lunch (12:00 PM - 1:30 PM): Explore the hotel restaurant. I'm starving! Hopefully, they have something other than "continental breakfast" leftovers. I'm secretly hoping for some killer South Indian food. My stomach is growling with anticipation, and I'm half-expecting it to be yelling in Telugu soon.

  • Afternoon (1:30 PM - 5:00 PM): The Great Hotel Room Debrief. Okay, room is…adequate. Decent view. No cockroaches. So far, so good. I'm also trying to figure out the AC (it's the age-old battle). I'll probably end up feeling like I'm inside a refrigerator, knowing my luck.

  • Evening (5:00 PM - 8:00 PM): Pool time! I need to destress after the travel chaos. Gotta get some sun. And then… dinner! I'm thinking I'll try to find a legit local place off the beaten path, something authentic. Or, failing that, whatever looks the least likely to give me food poisoning. Fingers crossed on that front.

  • Night (8:00 PM - whenever exhaustion wins): The real rest begins. I'm probably going to watch trashy TV and contemplate life. Or maybe I'll try to Skype home and end up talking for about 30 minutes before the connection cuts out, which is always fun. Note: Food Crisis! I forgot some snacks in my bag. Never again!

Day 2: Beaches, Temples, and the Mystical Chai

  • Morning (7:00 AM - 9:00 AM): Okay, breakfast. Back at the hotel restaurant. Hopefully, they're not still serving yesterday's eggs. Gotta get fueled up for adventure! Then, it's off to the beaches! Visakhapatnam is famous for its coastline, and I'm determined to see it.

  • Mid-morning (9:00 AM - 12:00 PM): Beach time! R.K. Beach, I think, is the plan. Sun, sand, sea, and hopefully not too many aggressive seagulls. I'm envisioning walking along the shore, feeling the waves, and generally trying to channel my inner zen master.

  • Lunch (12:00 PM - 1:30 PM): Beachside delights! Gotta find some fresh seafood. Imagine: Grilled fish, maybe some prawns, and an ice-cold Kingfisher. I can already taste it. Don't want to be too near to the sun.

  • Afternoon (1:30 PM - 4:00 PM): Time for a temple visit. Maybe Simhachalam Temple. I'm not religious, but I love the history and the architecture. Hopefully, I remember to dress respectfully. Always a chance of a wardrobe malfunction when you're me.

  • Tea Time (4:00 PM - 5:00 PM): The holy grail of Indian experiences: Chai. I'm on a mission to find the perfect cup. Strong, sweet, and milky, with just the right amount of spice. You know, the kind that makes your soul sing. I'm dedicating an hour to nothing but the pursuit of the perfect Chai. It's serious business.

  • Evening (5:00 PM - 8:00 PM): Dinner at a place with a view. Maybe a rooftop restaurant overlooking the city. I'm feeling fancy tonight, or at least, I'm pretending to be.

  • Night (8:00 PM - Whenever I can no longer stand): Wandering. That's when I'm best suited. See what's around, get pleasantly lost.

Day 3: The Road Less Traveled, and the Curse of the Laundry

  • Morning (7:00 AM - 9:00 AM): Breakfast again. Please, no more soggy toast. This time, I'm actually going to eat something substantial. I'm starting to feel like I need to eat more.

  • Mid-morning (9:00 AM - 12:00 PM): A day trip! Let's go. I'm thinking either a drive to Borra Caves. Or something a bit less "touristy". Gotta find out where the locals actually go. Google Maps to the rescue!

  • Lunch (12:00 PM - 1:30 PM): Lunch on the road. Hopefully something quick and easy. I'm imagining a roadside stall with a delicious thali.

  • Afternoon (1:30 PM - 4:00 PM): Whatever we choose, the plan is to embrace the chaos. Get a little lost. Discover something unexpected. Maybe even have a near-death experience (hopefully not!). But, the goal is to be in the moment.

  • Laundry Drama (4:00 PM - 5:00 PM): The Curse of the Laundry! Okay, I need to deal with the mountain of dirty clothes that I've accumulated. Either send them to the hotel laundry service (expensive and impersonal), or attempt to wash something myself in the sink (disaster). I'm leaning towards the latter, just for the sheer comedic value.

  • Evening (5:00 PM - 8:00 PM): A final, big splash Dinner! Something amazing! I will search and explore until I find it!

  • Night (8:00 PM - Whenever I crash and burn): Packing again. Time to start the dreaded process of stuffing everything back into my suitcase, and hoping everything fits. I'm sure I'll be leaving something behind. I always do.

Day 4: Departure and the Bitter-Sweet Farewell

  • Morning (7:00 AM - 9:00 AM): Last chance for breakfast. Savor it!

  • Mid-morning (9:00 AM - 11:00 AM): Check out. That's where I will hope things do not go wrong! Then, a last-minute souvenir hunt. Need to find something to remember this trip, even if it's just a cheap trinket.

  • Departure (11:00 AM - whenever the flight leaves): Airport. Flight. Home. I'm already a bit sad to leave, even though I'm also ready to go home. It’s so bittersweet.

  • Final Thoughts: This trip is going to be whatever it is. I'm prepared for it to go according to plan and equally prepared for it to be a complete disaster. The most important thing is to embrace the chaos, enjoy the food, the people, and the experience, even if it's a little messy. And most importantly, I hope I return in one piece!

Fairfield by Marriott Visakhapatnam: Your Dream Beach Getaway Awaits! (Or Does It?) - A Deep Dive, Honesty Included.

Okay, spill. Is this place *actually* on the beach? Because travel brochures lie. A LOT.

Alright, alright! Breathe. No, it's not *directly* on the sand, like you're stumbling out of your room and onto the beach. It's across the road. A busy, sometimes chaotic, Indian road. Think of it as... a slightly elevated beach-adjacent experience. The view? Glorious. The practicality? Requires crossing traffic that makes you question your mortality. But hey, you're close! And the ocean breeze? Absolutely divine. Just…look both ways, okay?

Little Tip: Request a room on a higher floor. You get a better, less obstructed view of the Bay of Bengal. Trust me, the view is worth it, even if you're staring at a tiny, frenetic Indian traffic jam first.

What's the deal with the rooms? Clean? Comfy? Do they have…bedbugs?! (shudders)

Mostly clean! I mean, let's get real, things aren't *always* spotless in India. But the rooms I saw (and the ones I snooped in, because I'm nosy like that) were generally well-maintained. Comfy beds? Absolutely. The AC worked like a dream, which is crucial in that heat. Bedbugs? Thankfully, no evidence during my stay. But hey, I'm no entomologist, so you're still taking a risk. Bring your own bug spray, just in case. Better safe than itchy, right?

Is there anything *besides* the beach to do? Or am I just supposed to...sit there and stare?

Haha! You're not *just* staring at the ocean. While the beach is THE draw, there's stuff! You can visit the INS Kursura Submarine Museum (super cool, even if you're not a military buff – I'm not, and I loved it!). There's also a zoo (I'm personally not a huge fan of zoos, but some people love them). And plenty of shops and restaurants. Look, you’ll be doing way more than just staring. Although, honestly, I wouldn't blame you if you did spend a good chunk of time *just* staring at the ocean. It's mesmerizing.

Let's talk food. Is the breakfast buffet worth it? (And is there an omelet station?!)

Okay, the breakfast buffet... it's a mixed bag, like a really good Indian wedding. Yes, there's an omelet station! Praise be. And you can get your fill of dosas, idlis, and other delicious South Indian breakfast staples. But the quality can be inconsistent. Some days the food is amazing, and you're practically levitating with joy. Other days…well, let’s just say I ate a lot of toast. But hey, you're in India! Embrace the gamble! And the coffee? It's… serviceable. Definitely not the best, definitely not the worst. I'd give it a solid 3 out of 5 stars.

Personal Ancedote Time!: One morning, I got *the* best masala dosa of my life! Crispy, perfectly spiced, with the most amazing sambar. I literally went back for seconds... and then thirds! I should have taken a picture; my face was pure bliss. The next day? A slightly soggy disappointment. It's the Indian breakfast lottery, baby!

And the other food? Dinner, lunch? Anything besides breakfast?

They have an all-day dining restaurant. The food is… fine. Again, not amazing, but perfectly edible. Expect a mix of Indian and international options. I had a pretty decent butter chicken one night, but the pizza was… well, let's just say I wouldn't order it again. There are a ton of restaurants outside the hotel, and I highly recommend exploring. Visakhapatnam has some amazing seafood, so venture out! I ate some grilled fish at a place down the road that was pure heaven.

So, the beach itself? What's it like? Crowded? Clean? And are there those annoying beach vendors?!

The beach (R.K. Beach, specifically) is pretty cool. It's long and wide and you can stroll for hours. Now, about the vendors... yes, there are vendors. Lots of them. They'll try to sell you *everything* from sunglasses to trinkets to questionable food. It can be a little overwhelming at times. Learn to say a firm "no, thank you," and you'll do just fine. The beach itself isn't the cleanest I've ever seen, let's put it that way, but it's definitely worth a visit for the experience. The sunsets are gorgeous, and the ocean breeze is pure bliss.

Swimming? Can you actually *swim* there? Or is it too polluted/dangerous/full of… things?

I saw people swimming. I didn't swim. I'll be honest, I’m a bit of a wimp when it comes to swimming in unfamiliar waters. The conditions probably vary depending on the time of year. Double-check local advisories and maybe ask the hotel staff for their opinion before you dive in. I'm not going to be held responsible if you end up battling a jellyfish! (Just kidding… mostly.)

Is the staff friendly? Because sometimes you just need a smile.

The staff is generally lovely. Polite, helpful, and genuinely seem to want to make your stay pleasant. I had a couple of minor issues (internet that kept cutting out, a lightbulb that blew), and they were on it ASAP. The service is usually very good, but like anywhere, there can be hiccups! Just be kind, be patient, and everything will be alright.

Anecdote Alert!: One day, I was feeling particularly grumpy (jet lag, you know?). I went down to the front desk, convinced I'd lost my room key. The guy behind the counter not only found it for me, but also offered me a cup of chai and genuinely asked how my day was. It completely turned my mood around. Seriously, those small gestures make a big difference.
